Your Kid Safe in the Internet

You’re a parent and you’re just dying to have a moment to yourself? Chaos and confusion are everywhere – dinner, shopping, homework, additional lessons. Everything needs to be done here and now. You can always give your kid a tablet to play! But if you do that, a tree will fall in the Amazon forest, or a panda will die in Asia… really, what bad can happen? It’s all for us to enjoy, right, and that includes the little people, doesn’t it? We will show you how to take care of your child’s safety in the Internet.

Kid mode on

I’m sure that all parents have doubts when they let their kids watch TV or play on the tablet. Officially, we all prohibit that, but the truth is we are living in the 21st century and our kids are in constant contact with mobile devices. So in reality, it’s the opposite. We give them devices to play, but we don’t know how to do it properly.

Teaching our kids good habits is better than prohibiting It’s easy to forget about being consistent, though. Especially, if we get peace and quiet in return. Fortunately, the developers of such operating systems as iOS or Android provide the ability to install parental control applications, which allow the kids to use mobile devices in a manner defined by parents. Basic functions of parental control:

  • The child has access only to applications selected by parents;
  • The ability to purchase inside the applications is blocked;
  • The ability to set a time limit after which the tablet goes into sleep mode;

There are additional options as well, such as monitoring of time spent browsing the Internet or playing games as well as tracking information about websites or who our child talked with.

Parental control gives the parents the knowledge what applications were used by kids and for how long.

How to install parental control?

First, check whether the manufacturer hasn’t already installed such an app on the device (in the case of Android). If it’s not there, download it from the Play Store:

If you are using iOS, you don’t have to download anything. All you need to do is use the limit option available in each iPhone and iPad. You will find detailed instructions on how to find and configure this option: https://support.apple.com/pl-pl/HT201304.

Additional settings

Regardless of the parental control you use, pay special attention to payment blocking. You need to set up the authentication option for each payment. A child may buy additional gadgets for its game or access to additional levels, even by chance. And you stop a potential heart attack when the bill comes.
All you need to do is go to “Settings” in the Google Play store, choose the “Purchase authentication” tab and check the “Each Google Play purchase” option.

It is also a good idea to install a browser that is safe for kids – https://play.google.com/store/search?q=safety%20browser&c=apps. It automatically blocks pornographic, gambling and social media sites.

You can’t stop progress

You’re a parent, so naturally, you have many fears and doubts, whether you should let your children use the tablet. It’s safe to say that parents from times when personal computers and video games became popular, had the same problems. But to our kids this is the reality and modern devices are a part of it. Let our kids learn about new technologies according to our rules. Let’s tech them to use the tablet the smart way and it will become our ally, not the enemy.
